About
the Wallace Carrier Group
| Opie
Wallace, founder of the Wallace Group of Carriers,
was born in Pleasant Plains, Arkansas, and came
to California in 1935. He got his start in California
trucking nearly 70 years ago driving a tractor
on former President Herbert Hoover's ranch in
Chowchilla. In 1945 Opie Wallace bought his first
truck, a gas-powered Dodge and began hauling agricultural
commodities. In 1947 the trucking operation picked
up momentum as they expanded into the home building
business. |
 |
He
became a member of the California Trucking Association
in 1950. Farming was added to their list of enterprises
in 1958. In 1964, Opie helped form the State Bank
of Chowchilla. In 1965, Wallace Transport was established
as a California Corporation.
 |
Today,
the Wallace family operates statewide general
commodities carriers with gross revenues in excess
of 12 million dollars. The companies are now operated
by Opie's son, President Joel (Bud)
Wallace. Both Opie and Joel have held the prestigious
position of President of the California Trucking
Association. |
In addition, they are heavily involved int the American
Trucking Association and numerous community organizations.
Opie's grandchildren, Lillian (Wallace) Dutra and
Nick Wallace have helped out in the operation. With
such a historical background, one can appreciate why
the Wallace family is proud of their trucking heritage.
